Technical and functional
In the past, PVD surface treatment was extensively applied especially in the die and cutting tools industry where such tools, given their specific usage, are particularly subject to wear from high-pressure contact with the processing material and to high temperatures in the area of contact.
PVD treatment properties reduce these abrasive and adhesive phenomena (increasing metal cutting speeds and the useful life of the die), reduce sticking, and eliminate chemical and thermal influence, friction and seizure.
For these reasons the fields of application of PVD treatments are now countless. Just some examples are:
- cutting tools: hobs, bits, mill cutters, cores, inserts;
- hot and cold moulding tools: dies, punches;
- precision mechanical components: valves, pumps;
- aluminium die-casting components;
- titanium alloy components for use in competition and aeronautics engines;
- automatic machine components with a high processing frequency;
- moulds for plastic heat-sealing.
Vacuum Surtec is available to customise cyclic applications for customers, targeted to resolving specific component problems.
Main technical and functional coating characteristics using PVD technology:
- 2000÷3000 HV hardness;
- 1÷20 micron thickness;
- excellent chemical stability;
- optional friction coefficient variation;
- resistant to heat oxidation.
